Nothing was left behind as far as the creative angle of our first production. This is sure to please audiences on all levels, and educate on the details of Fireproof’s mobile shredding services.

Interested? Check back in a few days when we launch the production!

Special thanks to Luc Nutter (OSU Flash Mob, seen in these pictures) for his patience and “eye” for detail.

An increasing number of Americans are falling prey to debit and credit card skimming, which is currently the top ATM-related crime. Skimmers are devices that steal credit and debit card information. When placed over an ordinary card reader, they allow criminals to capture the victim’s PIN data. Unfortunately, most people don’t even realize the crime occurs—at least until months later when funds are drained from their account.

Currently, fraudulent readers are showing up at gas stations around the country. Scammers tamper with the gas pump, install the skimmer, and then, while parked in a nearby car, they use a Bluetooth device to read the card data. These crimes are especially hard to trace since the time between the actual skimming and the draining of funds can be months. Being alert is your best form of protection.

Be aware of card reader oddities. The mouth of a card receptacle should be flush with the machine, or it should have only a slight lip. If it looks or feels different, or if it has an extra piece of plastic sticking out from the card slot, it could be a skimmer.

Watch out for strangers who hover around you at the ATM machine. They only need to get close enough to see your PIN number as you enter it into the machine.

Look for hidden cameras at ATM machines. Thieves can install these cameras to capture your PIN information.

Review your bank and credit card statements regularly. Be on the lookout for small charges of a dollar or two from companies or individuals you don’t know. Thieves who are planning to drain your funds often test the account first to make sure it hasn’t been cancelled.

Several Fireproof employees headed over to Huntington Park on Saturday to see the Columbus Clippers take on the Toledo Mud Hens. Now in its second year, Huntington Park is well established as one of the city’s best venues. In fact, last year BaseballParks.com named Huntington Park the Best Ballpark of the Year based on its superior design and site selection and for its fan amenities. While few would argue that it is indeed a wonderful ballpark, some of you may still be making comparisons to the Clippers’ former home—Cooper Stadium. If you’re struggling to recall the heyday of this Franklinton hallmark, allow us to offer up a little nostalgia.

October 17, 1931

The Columbus Baseball Club purchased 26.9 acres along W. Mound Street from Mary C. Grant.

June 3, 1932

Red Bird Stadium was built for $450,000 for St. Louis’ top minor-league team. It was one of the first stadiums with permanent outdoor lights.

June 17, 1932

The first night game in the stadium attracted more than 21,000 people. Two months later, Franklin D. Roosevelt kicked off his first presidential campaign in the stadium.

1943

Seventeen-year-old Joe Garagiola played in 81 games for Columbus.

1955

The Red Birds moved to Omaha. Harold Cooper and other local businessmen purchased Ottawa from the International League and relocated the team to Columbus. The new major-league affiliate was the Kansas City Athletics. The Columbus team was named the Jets, and the stadium took on its new identity as Jet Stadium. On opening day, 88-year-old Cy Young tossed out the first pitch.

1970

Jet Stadium needed major repair work, but the IRS ruled that since the Jets were a non-profit organization, they could not use profits to fix the stadium. The Jets moved to Charleston, West Virginia.

1975

Franklin County bought Jet Stadium for $600,000.

1977

Franklin County Commissioner Harold Cooper brought baseball back to Columbus. AstroTurf was installed; suites were built; and the Clippers were born as the Triple-A affiliate of the Pirates.

1979

The Clippers began their affiliation with the New York Yankees.

August 19, 1984

The stadium was renamed Cooper Stadium after Harold Cooper, president of the International League at that time.

June 26, 1995

Fans watched future Yankees Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte. Rivera threw a five-inning no-hitter against Rochester.

November 13, 2007

Cooper Stadium was officially moved into the city of Columbus when Franklin County commissioners annexed 47 acres of township land that included the ballpark.

2008

In their second year as an affiliate of the Washington Nationals, the Clippers played their final season in Cooper Stadium.

Fireproof fans young and old alike were treated to a picnic-style dinner on the second floor of the new stadium, followed by treats and excellent seats and fireworks! A great way to end the summer!

New business to capture the Atlanta market

LITHIA SPRINGS, GA – June 18, 2010 – Fireproof Records Center, a Columbus, Ohio-based document management company is joining forces with what was formerly Ultimate One DMS to form a new company called InfoStream. The new company, which will be based in the Atlanta suburb of Lithia Springs., will benefit from Fireproof’s 100-year presence in the industry, making it possible to manage larger accounts in the Atlanta metro area. “We’re bringing capital, resources, stability and our history in the information industry to this new company,” said Fireproof CEO Mike James.

“Fireproof’s business is more solution oriented with a focus on backing up documents and storing them or scanning and storing them,” explained InfoStream Co-Owner Todd Gallichio. “At Ultimate One, we have helped more customers scan and store in-house. Now we are meeting at a mutual point that will enable us to better serve our customers throughout the entire life cycle of the document.”

Ultimate One DMS started doing business in the Atlanta area just two years ago. During that time, they have worked with such well-known companies as Piedmont Hospital, Barnes Law Group, Capital Investment Advisors, Charter Bank, White Electrical and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Piedmont Hospital manages a system that handles more than 400 people a day and over 10 million documents. “We have shown them a tremendous savings, cutting down on paper and space,” Gallichio said. “Not only have we automated their administrative access unit, but we cut the amount of paper in their medical records department, streamlining both patient and referral requests.”

Johnette Hegedus, Director of the Administrative Access Unit at Piedmont Hospital, greeted the news about InfoStream with enthusiasm. “It offers us more resources to possibly move ahead with some of the initiatives that we have thought about doing,” she said. “In today’s market, a larger company provides more comfort because of greater stability.”

Co-owner and 10-year industry veteran Randall Smith believes the formation of InfoStream means they will be better equipped to service the Atlanta market. “By partnering with Fireproof, we now have the financial strength to focus on growing our company and aiding our customers,” he said. “It also gives our clients some reassurance that we will be here for the long haul.”

About Fireproof Records Center

Fireproof Records Center specializes in information management solutions, including storage and retrieval, document imaging, certified document destruction and business continuity. For more than 100 years, they have been serving the Central Ohio community, with recent expansions in the Cleveland area. The company operates out of four Central Ohio locations, including its Grove City headquarters with over 500,000 square feet of storage capacity.
Thoughts from the Event:

“The Kodak showcase event was informative and the speed of the scanner was very impressive.”

“The showcase was a great opportunity for us to see how other departments could utilize more of Fireproof’s services.”

“It was beneficial to see the flow of the operations department. It’s nice to see where they store our documents. It gives me confidence and makes the decision easy.”

“The diverse scanner options are encouraging for those of us with in- house operations. It’s nice to know we can still image in-house and store with Fireproof. Their hybrid solution is perfect for us.”

How do businesses stay efficient? How do business professionals stay informed on industry trends?

Well, here at Fireproof, we participate in a Profit Enhancement Group (PEG). This group is led by the Management Growth Institute (MGI) and brings together eight to ten records management CEOs to investigate, collaborate, discover and recommend ways for companies to improve their profits.

Each PEG meets at a different member’s business location twice a year to evaluate their operation. At the host’s facilities, the group director assigns members to teams, and guides them through a two-day evaluation and reviews the critiques.

During the evaluation, members spend a rigorous day interviewing employees, investigating far corners of warehouses, understanding systems and procedures and watching the business in action. The magic of this organization happens as members present their reports; detailing data found, perspective changes and additions.

As the host reviews member recommendations, solutions fall into place. The host benefits from the peer reviews and is able to pinpoint any gaps, overlaps and other potential organizational issues.

We recently attended a session at the National Archives and Records Administration facility. This facility is where the IRS and other departments store their records. This is a very impressive facility.

Fireproof has been a member of this organization for over three years and every year we learn innovative strategies and new industry perspectives. We can’t wait for our next session!
