Fireproof has been securely transporting company records and other materials to our secure shredding facility for over 30 years.

Did You Know?

Once your records arrive at our high-security facility they are destroyed using premium, industrial-grade shredders that render the information unreadable. All shredded materials are baled and shipped directly to a recycling plant to be turned into pulp. 100% of our materials are recycled. Always. Everyday.

Here are some other recycling facts that we found interesting:

More than 56 percent of the paper consumed in the US during 2007 was recovered for recycling- an all-time high.

In total, 54.3 million tons of paper and paper board products were recovered last year in the United States- approximately 360 pounds for every man, woman and child in the country, up from 233 pounds per person in 1990.

The amount of paper being recovered far exceeds the amount sent to landfill sites. Every ton of paper that is recovered saves 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space.

Enough paper was recovered for recycling last year to fill 130 Empire State Buildings.

Since 1990, when the paper industry established its first recovery goal to advance recycling in the US, paper recovery has grown by more than 87 percent.

Northland Shred Day 2011" width="300" height="225" />On November 12th, Fireproof took part once again in the Northland Community Shred Day and Food Drive event, hosted by the Northland Community Council in Columbus, Ohio. This event is held twice a year and is a favorite with both the Northland community and the Fireproof Team! During these drives, the community is invited to bring documents that might expose them to identity theft if improperly disposed of to be shredded free of charge in exchange for a donation of three non-perishable food items. Participants can watch as their sensitive information is securely destroyed right on-site by Fireproof’sShred-Smart mobile destruction truck, and shredded materials are 100% recycled. All food items are donated to the Mid Ohio Food Bank. So just by participating, attendees are helping themselves and their communities. On top of that, it’s always a lot of fun!

This year, we had a remarkable turn out and the weather was beautiful! In about four hour’s time, our dedicated Fireproof team and the enthusiastic NCC volunteers were able to collect approximately 6100 pounds worth of shredded documents for recycling and 700 pounds of non-perishable food.

According to our sources, these numbers represent:

•	More than 900 meals provided to Ohio families who might otherwise have gone hungry;

•	Approximately 43 trees, 950 gallons of oil and 17,500 gallons of water saved by recycling;

•	About 350 Central Ohioans protected themselves from becoming one of the estimated 8,800 people who will be victims of identity theft in Ohio in 2011.

We are so grateful to everyone who brought donations or volunteered their time! You can do more to support Matt Habash and the Mid Ohio Food Bank team this holiday season by checking their calendar of upcoming events!

For 100 years, Fireproof Records Center has been active in the central Ohio community, providing safe, secure records management, data storage, imaging solutions and destruction services to more than 5,000 companies. It is an honor for us to participate in Northland Shred Days, and to be able to give back to our community through the Mid Ohio Food Bank. It’s our little way of saying “Thank You, Columbus, for choosing Fireproof!”
